Tyler Creek Associates looks for unique companies with products or services that meet
existing needs to such a degree that there is no reason to look any further. Or, even better,
products or services that create a need we didn't realize we had. These should not only
embody classic or defining attributes in their categories but also represent true value. They
should project authenticity; tell a story.
Another way of putting it is to say we are on a quest for quality. What is quality? Good
question. Some say it can't be defined but we know it when we see it. The philosopher sees
it in terms of essence. Being the best being or thing you are capable of. Some speak of utility
or the intersection of form and function. There are many approaches but generally there is
universal recognition when quality is present.
We believe that such innovative enterprises, the embodiment of quality, are the agents of
change in the marketplace. Think about how these typically iconic companies (once
unknown startups) reinvented the game: Starbucks, Panera (St. Louis Bread Company),
Trader Joes, Whole Food, Google, Yahoo, Ebay, Kindle, Facebook, Twitter, Southwest
Airlines, Apple (I Phone, I Pad, I Tunes), Groupon, Living Social, etc.
